Installing the Discus

  1. First slide the ceiling canopy over the cord
  2. Hang the fixture at the desired height, using the black ‘hook’
  3. Mount the porcelain lamp on the fixture as shown in the pictures below. Make sure that the fixture is all the way down, so it can spread it’s ‘wings’.
  4. Put the grey cap in position.
  5. Fix the ceiling canopy by sliding it all the way up, tightly to the ceiling and tighten the screw.
  6. Done! Enjoy!

Taking it out: just gently and slowly pull it out by the cord. When the ‘wings’ stick out you can squeeze them and pull it completely out.

When following these steps and doing them with caution it will work every time.

Pendant Lamp Bone China Open

Hand shaped bone china pendant ‘open’ in several sizes

The clear forms of the lamp have been modeled in clay by hand, thus receiving its characteristic somewhat irregular surface and form. The mostly closed form (the underside is closed except for a recessed hole) initially seems solid, monumental. Then follows the unexpected transparency, where the material comes to life by the light.

The opening gives more direct, but uniquely ‘shadowless’ light.

The lamps are manually produced in the studio. Each casting gets its own ‘drawing’ in the process, which is only revealed by light. In addition the finishing and the firing process affect the final form. Each lamp is therefore unique.

Manual Booklamp

Inserting the fixture into the lamp is easily done following the steps in these pictures. For the most equal spreading of light it is best to have the leds facing sideways. You can see which way is up on the photo’s.

Taking the fixture out is even more easy: gently pull on the cord until it comes out.

The closed form initially seems solid, monumental. Then follows the unexpected transparency, where the material comes to life by the light.

A special feature of this model is that the surface of the bottom is quite large. A large ‘canvas’ in which a vivid texture in the form of drops, drips and bubbles is created. This bottom also contains a recessed hole that provides for direct downward light.

The lamps are manually produced in the studio. Each casting gets its own ‘drawing’ in the process, which is only revealed by light. In addition the finishing and the firing process affect the final form. Each lamp is therefore unique.

Dome China Text

Dome China

A large dome-shaped chandelier, handmade in the translucent material bone china.

Bone china is often associated with classic English crockery, but was used for this project to create a light object with monumental dimensions and appearance. It is made up of a large number of parts. The cast elements have hand-sculpted models as a base. Together they form a slightly arched dome, whose parts differ greatly in light color and intensity by variables such as wall thickness and size.

The Dome China comes in one or two rings. The measurements are:

  • 1 ring | seven elements | diameter of about 90 cm
  • 2 rings 22 elements | diameter of about 170 cm

If required, a third ring is also possible: 3 rings | 45 elements | diameter of more than 250 cm

X-Large

  • 1 ring | nine elements | diameter of about 115 to 120cm

Of course, a custom Dome can also be made to order!

Below are some pictures of the Dome China with two rings (170 cm), at Piet Hein Eek in Eindhoven (website) and at the priory (monastery) of Buitenplaats Doornburgh in Maarssen. (website). And also pictures of the one ring (90cm) chandelier at Mint in London (
